New wetland policy in the works for Albertans

September 8, 2008

Mandated to provide water policy advice to the Government of Alberta, the Alberta Water Council has recently taken on the task of developing a new Wetland Policy and Implementation Plan for Alberta. Once complete, the Council will forward this draft policy Government of Alberta for their review and approval.

The Alberta Water Council is comprised of 25 members representing all levels of government, industry and environmental non-government organizations. The Council operates on a consensus-basis in order to provide the best advice possible on water management in Alberta. In addition to bringing different perspectives to the table through its multi-stakeholder membership, the Council also carries out stakeholder and public consultations to ensure Albertans voices are heard in issues related to the province’s water resources.
